At the recently concluded LOPEC, an international exhibition on printed electronics held in Munich, ELANTAS Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of the German chemical corporation Altana, showcased its new product, viz, a thermo-formable silver screen printing ink for in-mold electronics, where printed electronic structures are placed into the thermoforming or injection mold and then in-mold is decorated.
The company offers special formulations, printing tests and characterization in their laboratory according to customers’ specifications (application, layout and substrate). The company has a comprehensive R&D with equipped with printing and testing laboratories in Germany.
ELANTAS ink portfolio includes conductive, insulating and functional screen printing inks for applications such as membrane switches, touch surfaces, in-mold electronics, hybrid electronics, sensors, RFID antennas and electroluminescent lighting.
Its product line for Printed Electronics include:
- Conductive Silver Inks (silver and carbon): These are Solvent based or UV-curable and VOC-free with fast processing capability. It has good adhesion to glass, paper and various films such as PET or PC, and it is Thermoformable.
- Conductive Carbon Inks: These are solvent based inks and has fast processing capability and has good adhesion to various films such as PET.
- Insulating Inks (Transparent or colored): These fast process able inks are UV-curable and VOC-free. It has good adhesion to glass, paper and various films such as PET or PC.
- Luminescent Inks: This is an electroluminescent UV system with fast processing capability. It is VOC-free. It has good adhesion to PEDOT, ITO, paper and various films such as PET or PC. It is available green, blue and cyan colors and has improved light out-coupling.
ELANTAS undertakes development and formulation of inks and coatings using various stirring and mixing methods. It has testing lab for Screen printing and curing (UV or heat treatment) of inks and coatings under clean room conditions.
It manufactures conductive and insulating test sheets as well as electroluminescent devices. Its R&D efforts include: Characterization of substrates, thin-film layers and devices, e.g. surface analysis, electrical, optical and mechanical testing. It also undertakes environmental stress tests, e.g. water permeability determination, oxygen permeability determination, climate stressing, temperature cycling and salt spray test.
