Rhanos (P) Ltd. Chennai Further Enhances Technology Innovations With CTS
27 September 2025: Eashwar Indrajith, the Company’s NextGen Director, a M. Sc. (Marketing) from Loughborough University, UK Shares Perspectives About Recent Developments and their Future Vision.
How would you describe the manner in which Rhanos (P) Ltd. has evolved and developed over the decades since its inception ?
Rhanos (P) Ltd. has undergone significant evolution since its inception in 1954. Founded by the late S. Ramanathan, a pioneering textile printer who learned his craft by visiting foreign countries, we began as a textile printing company, notably supplying screen-printed sarees to Binnys Ltd.
The second generation, led by R. Devadas from the 1960s to the 1980s, marked a pivotal period. He pioneered the film process for screen making and cultivated a highly skilled workforce in display manufacturing. During this era, Rhanos primarily served as an advertising agency supplier for prominent agencies like HTA, O&M and Lintas, producing tin boards, banners, and various displays. We were also a major supplier of screen-printed TT balls and liquor caps.
Today, with the third and fourth generations working collaboratively, we have successfully transitioned into industrial screen printing, a testament to our adaptability and continuous growth.
The company has made a name for itself with an impressive portfolio of services being predominantly into industrial screen printing (credit card / smart card printing), what were the high points of this phase ?
Our expertise as a screen printer provided a natural entry point into the plastic cards market. In the 2000s, we expanded our capabilities with additional processes such as heat lamination, high-speed die punching, card embossing, and magnetic tape technology. This allowed us to become a significant supplier of bank cards. However, with the rise of licensed technologies by VISA, MasterCard and RuPay and the absorption of many card activities by cell phone technology, this process gradually faded after 2010.
Rhanos has developed itself into a key player in the arena of screen stretching / exposing of big size screens for automotive applications; what are the USPs that set it apart ?
The liberalization of the Indian economy created immense opportunities, particularly in the automobile and white goods industries, which became a real turning point for us. Our unique selling propositions in this area include:
– Custom-Built Infrastructure: We possess a specially designed facility capable of accommodating the manufacturing of large screens, up to a size of 5 x 3.5 meters.
– Versatile Printing Capabilities: We operate both sheet-fed and roll-to-roll screen printing machines, enabling us to cater to diverse production requirements.
With the third generation at the helm of the company as its MD, to what extent does this lineage along with experience and expertise help to further strengthen the company and its perception ?
Yes, with the third generation at the helm, boasting over 40 years of industry experience, Rhanos is currently at a stage where we can readily adopt new materials and process technologies within our industry. A prime example is the implementation of the Laser Screen System. Furthermore, we have integrated digital print technologies that coexist seamlessly with our core screen print business, offering clients enhanced speed and reliability. This blend of seasoned expertise and modern technological adoption significantly strengthens the company and its market perception.
The family’s 4th Generation has recently joined the business; how does this stability and continuity ensure customer retention and enhancement ?
The entry of the family’s fourth generation into the business is viewed positively by our customers. They appreciate that younger individuals bring fresh perspectives, new technologies and renewed energy to the business, while also ensuring stability and familiarity from an early age. Many customers recognize this as a continuation of our legacy, coupled with the potential for innovation and long-term continuity. A dynamic and forward-thinking approach is crucial for sustained growth and customer loyalty.
How does the combination of youthful enthusiasm and mature guidance help to accelerate the company’s growth ?
The combination of youthful enthusiasm and mature guidance significantly accelerates the company’s growth by:
– Minimizing Failure Rates: It reduces the chances of errors in processes and with personnel.
– Strategic Job Selection: This blend of experience and fresh perspectives enhances our ability to strategically select the right kinds of jobs that best suit the organization’s capabilities and goals.
Rhanos has recently invested in and installed a CTS (Computer to Screen) machine, how does this give the company an edge and further increase its ‘preferred’ status ? What are your future plans and vision for Rhanos ?
The recent investment in and installation of a CTS (Computer to Screen) machine provides Rhanos with a significant competitive edge, further solidifying our ‘preferred’ status. Working with this machine is truly exciting due to:
– Clean Room Process: It operates in a clean room environment, which enhances the actual quality of output to the screen.
– Efficiency and Precision: The elimination of film retouching and the software-controlled image positioning to the screen save a considerable amount of time. Artwork to screen exposure is achieved in a matter of minutes with perfectly predictable results.
As we celebrate our 70th year in the screen printing business, we are proud to have embraced the very latest in technology. Our future plans and vision for Rhanos involve continuous innovation, further integrating cutting-edge technologies, and expanding our reach into new applications while upholding our legacy of quality and reliability. We aim to remain at the forefront of the industrial screen printing industry, anticipating and meeting the evolving needs of our clients.
