Maharashtra to Set Up Six Technical Textile Parks: FICCI

30 September 2025: At, FICCI Annual Textile Conference (TAG 2025), Sanjay Savkare, Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, unveiled FICCI-Wazir Advisors Textile Report titled “Catalysing Textile & Apparel Growth: Leveraging Global Opportunities.” He announced that the state is working towards establishing six technical textile parks-one in each revenue division-positioning Maharashtra as a future hub for technical textiles.

Savkare emphasized the government’s policy push to attract both domestic and foreign investment, with strong support in skilling, R&D and infrastructure. A task force has also been formed to seek stakeholder suggestions for enhancing export competitiveness, ensuring industry support aligns with practical needs.

Ms. Anshu Sinha, Principal Secretary (Textile), Government of Maharashtra, underlined the need for greater collaboration between industry, academia and government. She called on industry leaders to partner in areas such as sustainable practices, innovation, and workforce development to solidify Maharashtra’s position as a leading textile manufacturing hub.

Sharing insights from the FICCI-Wazir report, Prashant Agarwal, Joint MD, Wazir Advisors, highlighted that global textile and apparel trade touched USD 893 billion in 2024, growing 5% YoY, while India’s domestic T&A market reached USD 184 billion with USD 37 billion in exports. Despite strong fundamentals, India faces challenges from US-imposed tariffs of 50% compared to lower rates for Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Report positions garment-led investments as central to India’s growth trajectory, supported by FDI inflows, government schemes like PLI and PM MITRA, and global strategic alliances. It stresses forward integration into apparel manufacturing to boost value addition, employment generation, and global competitiveness.

Key sessions at the conference covered themes including investment in garmenting and technical textiles, the role of FTAs, the importance of FDI and strategic alliances, and global sourcing through sustainability and innovation. Discussions explored opportunities in automation, digitalization, ESG compliance, traceability and green manufacturing, reinforcing the sector’s pathway toward global leadership by 2030.
