Digital Positive / Negative Film Manufactured by Mitsubishi, Launched in India by Royal Impex
01 October 2025: Mihir Lalwani, Director – Marketing of the Pune-based Company Shares his Views about the Company’s Evolution and Recent Introduction in Screen Printing Industry.
How has Royal Impex developed and grown over the years ?
With over three decades of experience, our founder and director Nitin S. Lalwani set foot in the market with screen printing in his early days. He kept adding other products and services related to printing industry to meet the customer demands. All the operations regarding the import and trading of raw material related to the printing industry were started in the sister concern about three decades ago. Royal Impex was founded in the year 2007 with the aim to further boost operations. Royal Impex has been actively catering to the flexographic industry and now the next generation takes it a step ahead. With me spearheading the further growth story as Director – Marketing, the company has now acquired the exclusive distributorship for Mitsubishi Graphic Arts Film for Positives and Negatives in India. This is a new Japanese Negative positive film, from the Mitsubishi company, which we have introduced the Indian market. The film is very accurate in imaging/ exposing unlike any other traditional films. The film gives a digital output to anything that is exposed with it. No chemical developer is required. The thickness of the film is almost 8 Mil therefore increasing the imaging quality and has a better grip due to the matte texture of the film.
Why did you get in touch with Mitsubishi for their Thermal Laser Film ?
There was a huge gap in the market when it comes to the graphic arts film (Positives/ Negatives) be it in any industry right from textile screen printing, industrial screen printing, printed electronics, flexographic, gravure. The graphic arts film market has not seen a thorough advancement; the silver halide films have been in the market for the past many years without any changes to the product or process up until now. Mitsubishi TRF Film offers benefits in every step right from the product to its process. This was the reason why we contacted Mitsubishi for their films.
What are the USPs of this product and how does the industry benefit from it ?
The existing market of silver halide films or inkjet films has seen a lot of challenges, such as Imaging Accuracy, Durability most importantly unpredictable rates of the silver halide films, the problem of service for the silver halide film imagesetters/ laser plotters and the problem of parts availability.
The inkjet printed films are not accurate and problems of durability and reusability and the printer maintenance also being an issue.
This is where the Mitsubishi film steps in along with the thermal imager Kodak Trendsetter equipment. There are over 1300 Kodak tre ndsetters sold in the market along with a great service support.
The Mitsubishi film is better than the regular films in the market in every aspect:
a) Thickness of the film is more which gives better results.
b) The film does not require any chemical process; it’s a dry thermal film.
c) The film has a protective layer and is scratchless; it can withstand the use of rubbing alcohol.
d) The film does not require a dark room to be processed in.
e) The film saves a lot of time as it does not undergo a chemical process, the size of 33 inch x 44 inch can be processed within a range of 5 to 8 minutes and it can be imaged on Kodak Trendsetter equipment.
f) The film is highly accurate because it does not undergo any chemical process of heating/ drying.
All in all, the Mitsubishi film is faster, has a better exposure result, is highly accurate, high resolution, more durable and is environment friendly.
Since when have you have taken this distributorship in India ? What has been the response from the industry ?
It has been more than 2 years since we have taken a distributorship of Mitsubishi films in India. The response is really very good from the market as the customers have seen the benefits over the previous films. We have seen 100% customer retention as the Mitsubishi film has made the process a lot easier, a lot faster and results a lot better.
Which industry / segments are you catering to with Mitsubishi Thermal Laser Film ?
The Mitsubishi Films serves a purpose in multiple industries ranging from industrial screen printing, automotive dials and decals, printed electronics/ PCB industry, textile screen printing, security printing, flexographic, gravure and more.
