Archroma funds development of sustainable textile laboratory at Mumbai’s Institute of Chemical Technology

05 December 2025: Archroma has funded the renovation and development of a sustainable textile laboratory at Mumbai’s Institute of Chemical Technology, enhancing research capabilities, practical learning and community outreach through its CSR program.

Archroma, a global specialty chemicals company known for its focus on sustainable innovations, has supported the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, India, in the renovation and establishment of an upgraded sustainable textile laboratory under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The modernised facility is designed to strengthen the department’s ability to carry out foundational research and develop forward-looking technologies in textile processing, production, and effluent management. It aims to address existing industry challenges while fostering new ideas in sustainable, resource-efficient textile engineering.

As part of its CSR commitment, Archroma is also improving the academic environment by equipping students with enhanced infrastructure for hands-on learning and scientific experimentation. These advancements will help students gain the technical competency and practical knowledge required to support future demands of the textile industry.

The initiative further boosts the department’s technological readiness, enabling it to adapt to changing industrial and educational needs-particularly valuable at a time when only a limited number of institutions continue to provide specialised academic expertise for the textile sector.

Anjani Prasad, Regional Vice President, India, stated, “Our support to ICT is part of Archroma’s ongoing commitment to education and community development under our CSR program. We aim to contribute to an improved learning environment that enables students and researchers to develop skills relevant to sustainable textile practices. We are pleased to collaborate with ICT in strengthening academic infrastructure that benefits society.”

Beyond academic enhancement, the new laboratory is envisioned to function as a hub for community engagement. The department plans to host training programs for small-scale entrepreneurs, artisans, and local stakeholders, encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly processing techniques, knowledge transfer and value-added practices that align with broader sustainability objectives.

Ashok Athley, Head of the Department of Fibers & Textile Processing Technology at ICT, added, “The upgrade of our textile laboratory, supported through the funding from Archroma, will significantly enhance our teaching and research ecosystem. This will help students, researchers, and community stakeholders access improved facilities and work on solutions aligned with sustainable development. We appreciate Archroma’s support in strengthening academic capability for the broader societal benefit.”
