IDC MarketScape Places Ricoh Among Leaders in 2026 Laser Printer Study
10 August 2026: Ricoh has been placed in the Leaders Category in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Laser Production Printers 2026 Vendor Assessment. The May 2026 study evaluated the capabilities and strategies of 11 global laser production printer vendors.
IDC identified Ricoh’s polymerised toner technology as a key capability, citing benefits for print quality and energy efficiency. According to Ricoh’s announcement, the report also highlighted the company’s integration of semiconductor laser technology, electrophotography, toner materials science and high-volume print engineering.
Technology and service shape buying decisions
IDC’s public report summary says production printers are mission-critical systems with long life cycles and high capital costs. It notes that dependable service and support are buyers’ most important selection criteria, while efficiency, automation and the ability to address changing business needs also influence purchasing decisions.
Tim Greene, Research Director at IDC, said Ricoh combines engineering heritage, global support, stable technology platforms and reliable performance. He described these qualities as important for professional print providers that depend on their equipment for daily operations.
Ricoh links recognition to long-term R&D
Koji Miyao, President of Ricoh Graphic Communications and senior corporate officer at Ricoh Company, said the company was pleased that its research and development work had been considered in the assessment.
“We believe it confirms the value of our focus on Co-innovating with clients and partners to identify and develop solutions that support high quality production, agility, and growth,” Miyao said.
The laser production printer assessment follows Ricoh’s placement in the Leaders Category in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide High-Speed Inkjet 2025 Vendor Assessment. Published in December 2025, that report marked the third time Ricoh had received the designation in IDC’s high-speed inkjet assessment.
A broader production print portfolio
Ricoh’s graphic communications business spans toner-based production presses and high-speed inkjet systems. The company said the latest IDC assessment reflects capabilities extending beyond hardware to materials science, imaging technology and production engineering.
Headquartered in Tokyo, Ricoh operates across approximately 200 countries and regions. The group reported worldwide sales of JPY 2.608 trillion, approximately USD 16.4 billion, for the financial year ended March 2026.
IDC’s public document page confirms that the 45-page laser production printer assessment covers 11 companies and provides guidance for organisations considering production printing equipment. The full report is sold separately by IDC.
