A new EVM Production facility inaugurated at Bharat Electronics
Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) empowers the world’s largest democracy, India, by providing the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) for various kinds of election. It has got two units, Control Unit(CU) and Ballot Unit(BU). Recently, the Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora inaugurated a newly set up secured manufacturing facility for EVM production at BEL’s Military communication Strategic Business Unit at its Bangalore Complex. On this occasion, Braille EPI-Cards were also distributed for the first time in Karnataka to four visually impaired voters.
BEL has established state-of-the-art secure manufacturing facilities for manufacture of digital certified EVM/VVPATs as per the advise of Technical Experts Committee of Election Commission of India. The Commissioner also visited BEL factory complex where he was shown the different stages of manufacturing process of EVMs and VVPATs.
BEL’s Control Unit takes care of total control of polling, conduction of polling, display of total votes polled and declaration of results. It provides all the information at the press of few buttons. And the Ballot Unit, a simple voting device, displays a list of candidates. A facility to introduce Names and symbol is inbuilt. The voter has to press the desired switch located near to the name of each candidate.
