Ajit Lalvani Appointed President of the Sydenham Alumni Association
30 October 2025: Ajit Lalvani, an alumnus from the batch of 1970, has been appointed as the President of the Sydenham Alumni Association.
Sydenham College, a 112-year-old institution, has long been regarded as one of the finest commerce colleges in India – and at one time, in all of Asia. Generations of leading professionals in finance, chartered accountancy, management and entrepreneurship have passed through its halls. Among its distinguished alumni are Deepak Parekh, Hemendra Kothari, Nimesh Kampani, Uday Kotak, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Neeraj Bajaj, Ronnie Screwvala, Falguni Nayar, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala,Keki Mistry, Harsh Mariwala, Niranjan Hiranandani and many others.
In 2021, Ajit Lalvani, along with his batchmates Shyam Kotak and Hosi Charna, founded the Sydenham Alumni Association with the vision of “making Sydenham great again.” Since its inception, several meaningful initiatives have been launched under his leadership ……
– Revival of student societies that once defined Sydenham’s vibrant campus life.
– Appointment of professional sports trainers and creation of new sports facilities.
– Institution of the “Student of the Year” Awards – one each for male and female students in both the junior and senior colleges – carrying a cash prize of 1 lakh and a glittering trophy.
– Renovation of classrooms to create modern smart classrooms equipped with large TV screens, advanced audio systems, air conditioning, and comfortable seating – designed to make learning engaging and enjoyable.
– Launch of “The Sydenhamite”, a monthly newsletter that has been in circulation for over three years, keeping alumni informed and connected with the college’s activities and progress.
– Annual alumni reunions, bringing together Sydenhamites from across generations to celebrate memories and network with fellow alumni. New academic initiatives have also been introduced through alumni efforts, including a Degree Course in Luxury Retail Management and a Degree Course in FinTech, launched earlier this year – both designed to keep pace with evolving industry trends and student aspirations.
Under Ajit Lalvani’s leadership, the Sydenham Alumni Association continues to drive the transformation of this historic institution. His passion and commitment ensure that Sydenham remains not just a college with a glorious past, but a vibrant and forward-looking centre of excellence for generations to come.
