Akil Contractor Honoured with Sahir Ludhianvi Sammaan in Mumbai

08 September 2026: Poet and author Akil Contractor was honoured with the prestigious ‘Sahir Ludhianvi Sammaan’ for his book ‘Talabgaar Nayi Roshni’ at a literary programme and mushaira held in Mumbai on 6 September 2026. The award was presented to him by Sajid Khan Pathan, MLA from Akola West, Maharashtra. Instituted by the Lucknow-based Laraib Foundation, the honour recognises Contractor’s contribution to Urdu literature and his dedication to preserving and carrying forward the rich traditions of poetry, literary creativity and cultural expression.

The honour takes its name from Sahir Ludhianvi, one of the most influential poets and lyricists of the Indian subcontinent.
