26 March 2026: Amit Shah, Managing Director, Spectrum Scan (P) Ltd. Shares Insights on being Conferred with the Maverick Award at the Print Summit 2026.
How would you describe your experience of being honoured with the Maverick Award at the Print Summit 2026 (#PS26) in Mumbai on February 4, 2026 ?
I am deeply grateful to The Bombay Master Printers Association (BMPA) for conferring this honour at the Print Summit. This recognition will continue to inspire me and my team to strive for even greater excellence in the years ahead. I had the privilege of receiving this prestigious award from none other than our industry stalwart, Narendra Paruchuri of Pragati Offset, making the moment even more special.
How did it feel to be selected by industry veteran Iqbal Kherodawala for this particular award ?
Being selected for the Maverick Award by Iqbal Kherodawala makes this honour even more special and meaningful for me. Iqbal Kherodawala is a highly respected veteran of the printing industry, and his recognition carries immense credibility. Knowing that someone with his vast experience and deep understanding of the industry has acknowledged my work is both humbling and deeply encouraging.
What is the significance of your being presented with the Maverick Award at the Print Summit 2026 ?
For me, this recognition is not just an award but a strong validation of the ideas, risks and innovations we have pursued over the years. It motivates me even more to continue pushing boundaries, exploring new possibilities, and contributing positively to the growth of the printing and display industry.
The award recognizes you as a visionary in screen printing and thermoforming technologies; how does this honour reflect upon your overall approach and accomplishments as a printing industry professional ?
This honour reflects the journey of constantly exploring new possibilities and pushing the boundaries of what printing technologies can achieve. My approach has always been to combine innovation with practical application – whether in screen printing or thermoforming – to create solutions that add real value for brands and the retail environment. It also recognises the collective effort of our team, our willingness to experiment with new ideas, and our commitment to maintaining high standards in the printing and POP industry.
Which were some of the challenges faced while revolutionizing screen printing by successfully introducing four-colour (CMYK) techniques and what was your strategy for overcoming them ?
Introducing four-colour (CMYK) techniques in screen printing presented several challenges. Traditionally, screen printing was largely limited to spot colours, so achieving accurate colour separation, precise registration and consistent colour reproduction in CMYK required considerable technical refinement. Avoiding moiré patterns in halftone printing was another major challenge.
Additionally, it was important to develop the right skill sets within the team and ensure that the machinery, inks, and processes were properly calibrated for high-quality multi-colour output. Through continuous trials, process standardization, and meticulous attention to detail, we were able to achieve reliable CMYK results and demonstrate that screen printing could successfully deliver high-quality photographic reproduction.
From founding Spectrum Scan in 1987 and turning it into a globally recognized innovator in the print industry, it has been an eventful journey; what is your future vision for the company ?
We aim to expand our capabilities, invest in next-generation machinery, and develop more sustainable and intelligent display formats for global brands. At the same time, the focus will remain on nurturing skilled talent and building a strong team culture that continues to drive creativity, quality, and innovation in the print and display industry.
How do you see the scope for screen printing going forward and do you have any advice for the industry members ?
Screen printing continues to remain highly relevant, particularly in applications that require durability, special effects and printing on diverse materials. With growing demand in industrial electronics, retail displays, industrial graphics, packaging, and functional printing, its scope remains strong. The ability to produce rich ink deposits, unique textures, and specialty finishes makes it a valuable complement to other printing technologies. For industry members, the key lies in continuous innovation and upgradation-investing in modern equipment, strengthening process control, integrating with digital technologies and building skilled teams while focusing on quality and value-added applications.
