Colorful signage erected on Yamuna Expressway to symbolise ‘City of Apparel’

21 October 2021: Early this year, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the ministry of commerce and industry, had notified Noida as a ‘Town of Export Excellence (TEE)’ for Apparel Products. The move will make Noida eligible for various apparel export promotion schemes and will open new avenues for development and expansion of the apparel industry in Noida.

Under the ‘One District One Product’ scheme of the Uttar Pradesh government, an Apparel Park is being developed on the banks of Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, right in front of the Noida International Airport coming up in Jewar. The Gautam Budh Nagar, with Greater Noida as the district headquarter, in Uttar Pradesh was labeled sometime ago as ‘City of Apparel’. A signage to this effect – City of Apparel’ – has been erected recently on Yamuna Expressway near Jewar Toll Plaza. In Gautam Buddh Nagar, there are over 2,500 readymade garment factories including export oriented units. Thus the City of Apparel very soon can bring some joy to textile printers and in turn suppliers to textile/apparel decoration industry.

Dhirendra Singh, BJP MLA, Lalit Thukral, President, Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC) and few other leading apparel exporters were present at the event that marked the unveiling of the signage. The signage was conceptualized by NAEC to depict the status accorded to Gautam Budh Nagar by the Uttar Pradesh Government ODOP scheme.

The Apparel Park is being set up on 150 acres of land in Sector 29 on the Yamuna Expressway and around 100 apparel producers are establishing their units. The land allotment process is expected to be completed next month by YEIDA (Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority). The Apparel Park was conceived in 2018. There will be a total of 116 plots spread over the 221.5 hectares, of which 91 have been earmarked for NAEC. Leading garment manufacturers have been allotted plots at the Apparel Park that will generate 500,000 jobs. NAEC will ensure that a majority of it goes to people from nearby villages and towns and 70% of the workforce will be women.
