Durst Plans MPS Acquisition for January 2027, Adding Flexo Expertise

17 September 2026: Durst Group has announced that Netherlands-based MPS Printing B.V. is set to join the group on January 1, 2027. The planned Durst MPS acquisition would add flexographic expertise to its digital and hybrid label-printing business, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

According to Durst’s acquisition announcement, the transaction will take place through the purchase of MPS’s holding company. MPS will operate as MPS – A Durst Group Company from the planned effective date.

What the Durst MPS acquisition would add

MPS supplies flexographic printing systems for labels and flexible packaging. Durst says the acquisition will add engineering expertise and application knowledge, giving it more options for combining flexographic printing with digital technology, software, automation and finishing.

The group already offers digital label equipment, including the Tau G3 label platform. Adding MPS would widen the technology choices within the group rather than replace its existing digital offering.

Christoph Gamper, Durst Group’s CEO and co-owner, said the additional capabilities would allow complementary development paths and help the company address different customer requirements. Faster innovation and shorter development cycles remain Durst’s stated objectives.

Gamper said there is no single production concept that meets every requirement in the label market. Durst’s stated approach is to offer converters an appropriate mix of technologies and automation for their applications, rather than assume that digital printing alone will meet all production needs.

MPS leadership and customer commitments to continue

Durst says MPS will continue developing, manufacturing and marketing its existing flexographic systems. The current management team will remain, with Michiel Borst continuing to lead the business as managing director within the Durst Group structure.

Existing MPS direct sales channels will stay in place across Europe. In the United States, Durst US will assume responsibility for sales and service of the MPS portfolio. Durst also plans to extend access to its international service and spare-parts network.

Existing contracts and service commitments will remain in force under their terms. These arrangements matter to converters assessing support for equipment they already own, alongside any future machinery investment.

OMET partnership remains separate

Durst explicitly says its partnership with OMET will continue independently of the MPS transaction. The companies will keep developing, marketing and supporting the KJet and XJet hybrid platforms through their established partnership and channels.

The distinction is important: buying a flexographic press manufacturer does not, under the announced plan, mean ending Durst’s existing hybrid collaboration. Durst presents MPS as an additional development route for customers with different applications and production requirements.

Connecting presses with production software

The planned purchase also fits Durst’s stated aim of linking equipment with workflow software and production data. Related developments covered by Screen Print India include Durst’s CERM data integration for label production and its majority stake in CoCoCo, a print-production connectivity business.

For MPS customers, the immediate announcement concerns ownership, management continuity and support arrangements. Any new combined products will need separate announcements; this release does not provide a launch schedule for them.
