India Achieves 100 GW Solar PV Module Manufacturing Capacity

05 January 2026: India’s solar module manufacturing capacity recently hit a major milestone, exceeding 100 GW under the ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers), a significant jump from 2.3 GW in 2014, driven by government initiatives like the PLI Scheme for self-reliance and boosting domestic clean energy production towards 2030 goals. This growth, achieved through policy support and increased manufacturing, positions India for both domestic demand and potential exports, though challenges in upstream components like polysilicon remain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the development is yet another milestone towards self-reliance. “It depicts the success of India’s manufacturing capabilities and our efforts towards popularising clean energy,” he said on social media X.

Highlighting this achievement, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi said “ India has achieved a historic milestone -100 GW Solar PV Module Manufacturing Capacity under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) , a remarkable rise from just 2.3 GW in 2014 ! Driven by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and transformative initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for High-Efficiency Solar Modules, we are building a robust, self-reliant solar manufacturing ecosystem. This achievement strengthens our path towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and the target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.”
