Labelnet digital printing reaches 40% with second Domino press

19 October 2026: Labelnet digital printing now accounts for around 40% of output at the UK label manufacturer, according to Domino’s announcement on 15 October 2026. Its second Domino press, an N730i, adds capacity for shorter-run work and faster delivery, building on a digital production operation that began in 2020.

The manufacturer of self-adhesive labels, tickets and tags first invested in an N610i after more than 25 years focused on flexographic printing. One example of its digital-and-flexo approach is the award-winning peel-and-reveal beer label for Hackney Church Brewery’s ‘Noah Knows Best’ beer. The job won the Digital Labels & Packaging ‘Excellence with Hybrid Printing’ Award in 2025.

How Labelnet digital printing changed production

Domino reports that digital printing helped Labelnet reduce turnaround times from weeks to days, and sometimes hours. It also supported expansion beyond food labels into chemical and beverage work, with production covering foiled and embellished labels, variable data and multi-layer constructions.

Rob Lorkins, Labelnet’s managing director, said bringing studio work in-house added skills and made it easier to respond to customers. “It’s a great operational benefit for us to have that flexibility, and we’re able to adapt to customer requirements on the spot.”

What does the N730i add?

Domino’s N-Series press specifications list the N730i at 1200dpi native resolution and a maximum speed of 90 metres per minute. That speed relates to its high-speed productivity mode, compared with the standard 70 metres per minute. These are equipment ratings, not published measurements of Labelnet’s average production speed.

Processing artwork while the press runs

The N730i uses Sunrise DFE, Domino’s digital front end, for real-time inline raster image processing. According to Domino, it can process artwork, including variable-data files, as the press prints, reducing advance processing and helping limit idle time.

This Sunrise variable-data workflow addresses the delay that can arise when artwork must finish processing before printing starts. For Labelnet, the new press adds to an existing combination of digital printing and flexographic finishing.

Lorkins also said the digital shift had created development opportunities for existing staff and attracted younger employees who adapted quickly to the technology. The roughly 40% digital share and turnaround improvements remain company-reported figures; the announcement does not disclose the N730i’s installation date.
