Largest 18 × 12 Feet Screen Printed Indian National Flag Recognised By Kalam’s World Records

16 May 2025: The Department of Printing Technology, School of Engineering, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, marked a historic achievement by organising a Kalam’s World Records event on April 22, 2025. As part of this momentous occasion, 23 students from the B. E. Printing Technology programme successfully created the largest screen printed Indian National Flag, measuring an impressive 18 × 12 feet.

This remarkable initiative was made possible through collaboration with the All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP), New Delhi and the Tirupur Master Printers Association (TMPA), Tirupur. The event was hosted at the Ammai Appan Auditorium, Campus II, School of Engineering, and witnessed the participation of 1,500+ students from various schools of the Institute, including Engineering, Education, Self-Finance divisions and several distinguished representatives from the printing industry. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with national pride and youthful enthusiasm.

The day began on a solemn note with a soulful prayer song, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by dignitaries and students, symbolizing the light of knowledge and unity. Dr. B. Sargunam, Dean of the School of Engineering, delivered the Welcome Address, highlighting the resilience and commitment of the students and faculty involved.

The highlight of the day was the official Kalam’s World Record attempt. In a demonstration of exceptional skill and coordination, the students executed the screen-printing of the giant national flag – a feat that set a new milestone in the field of screen printing.

Before the event, the Vice Chancellor of the institute and Chief Guest K. Rajendran, General Secretary, AIFMP, highlighted the significance of the occasion and emphasised the importance of such initiatives in promoting national pride and showcasing student talent in the field of printing technology. In his Keynote Address, he praised the synergy between academia and industry and encouraged students to set new benchmarks for the future of the printing sector.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. V. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice-Chancellor, who emphasized the critical role of technical education in nation-building and lauded the ground breaking initiative that combined academic rigor with industrial collaboration.

Kumaravel, Chairman of Kalam’s World Record, addressed the gathering. In his inspiring speech, he applauded the students’ extraordinary teamwork and technical skill, highlighting how such initiatives foster national pride and global recognition.

The key industrial representatives supporting this achievement were M. Balagopal, Vice President (South), AIFMP and R. Shanmugasundaram, Partner, Purandhara Graphics, Tirupur, who served as essential coordinators, guiding the successful execution of the programme.

The event received generous sponsorship from major organizations including AIFMP (New Delhi), TMPA (Tirupur), Screen Print India Magazine (Mumbai), Screenprinting and Graphics Association of India (SGAI), Purandhara Graphics (Tirupur), Seshasayee Paper and Boards Limited (Erode), Silkflex Polymers (India) Ltd. (Tirupur), San Printech (P) Ltd. (Mumbai), SquareDOTS (Chennai), Graphic Land Pvt. Ltd. (Sivakasi), and The Print Specialist (Chennai).

In recognition of their contribution to education and industry collaboration, the guests were honoured, and scholarships were distributed to meritorious students. Mahakakshmi, IV year Printing Technology, received 15,000/- scholarship for the fourth consecutive year.

The following first-year students received scholarships from the Coimbatore Printers Association (COPRA) – Akshaya V. M, Kavya G, Narmatha N, Subaranjani N and Thulasi V. S. Scholarships sponsored by the Paper and Allied Merchant Association (PAMA) were awarded to Yuvashree S and Keruthika M.

Additionally, PAMA honored M. S. Deepa Bharathi, a second-year Printing Technology student, for her remarkable contribution towards Printing Technology admissions for the academic year 2024-25. A captivating video documentary showcased the students’ dedicated preparation journey, bringing to life the tireless efforts behind this historic accomplishment.

The AIFMP Hon. General Secretary presented a sponsorship of Rs.30,000 to Dr. A. Arulmozhi, HoD, Department of Printing Technology. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. A. Arulmozhi, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Printing Technology, and Co-convener of the event. She expressed sincere appreciation to the dignitaries, industrial partners, and all supporters, mentioning with gratitude:

Commenting on the achievement, Anil Brahmbhatt, President, Screenprinting and Graphics Association of India (SGAI), said, “As India’s national screen printing association, SGAI has been very happy to extend support and also promote this noteworthy initiative. This noteworthy endeavour by the Department of Printing Technology, School of Engineering, Avinashilingam Institute, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu to have 23 students from the B. E.
