Nike promotes Sustainable Design

07 October 2020: From creating innovative ways to recycle shoes nearly 30 years ago to recent measures that address climate change, Nike has been long credited with launching the modern environmental movement rather than an annual observance for the sake of it. Nike continues building on decades of advancing sustainability and setting bold goals for the future.

So, Nike has launched a new program on that makes it easier to search, shop and learn about the sustainable features of its products. The features are:

# Shop Sustainable Navigation: It’s now easier than ever to find sustainable product on with a new “Shop Sustainable Materials” tab in the navigation.
# Badging on Product Walls and Product Display Pages: displays a Sunburst on product made with sustainable materials. This pilot is launching with apparel products and featured apparel made from at least 50 percent sustainable materials by fabric weight. The Sunburst was originally designed by Nike’s first employee Jeff Johnson in 1974. In 2019, with the intent of embodying the concept of circular design and with the blessing of Jeff – Nike used the brand marker for Nike Sustainability.
# “How This Was Made”: A new tray feature on product pages is available for products meeting the at least 50 percent sustainable materials threshold and includes a description of the benefits of these materials compared to conventional materials.
# Sustainable Blend: It combines recycled polyester and organic cotton creates a performance material that reduces carbon emissions, water and chemical inputs compared to blends made from virgin polyester and conventionally-grown cotton. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic chemicals and uses less water than conventional cotton.
# Recycled polyester: This material in Nike products is made from recycled plastic bottles that are cleaned, shredded into flakes and converted into pellets. Recycled polyester reduces waste and reduces carbon emissions by approximately 30% compared to virgin polyester.
# Organic cotton: It is created without synthetic chemicals, organically-grown cotton requires less water than conventional cotton to produce. Conventional cotton farming can have an extraordinary environmental impact due to water and pesticide use. Nike is one of the top users of organic and recycled cotton in the world.
