Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s Printing Engineering Students Shine at IndiaSkills 2021

22 January 2022: WorldSkills is a competition where more than 80 countries compete with each other in various skills. It takes place every two years. It took place in Kazan, Russia in 2019 and it will be held in Shanghai, China in 2022.

Similarly, IndiaSkills is a competition featuring 50+ skills like Carpentry, Bakery, Water Technology, Cooking, Print Media Technology, Beauty Therapy, etc. The winner of the competition will get a chance to represent India at Shanghai, China in 2022.

Participants had to register for IndiaSkills on their official site in the skill Print Media Technology. The first level was an MCQ based exam in which almost 300+ students appeared. Later, an online exam was held wherein five candidates were shortlisted for the state level competition i.e., IndiaSkills, Maharashtra.

After getting shortlisted for the state competition, the candidates underwent a 10-day practical training on digital printing, ink mixing and shade matching, pre-flighting, fault finding in printed sheets. The competition took place from September 3 to 5, 2021. The students of Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s College of Engineering and Technology and GK Pate Wani Institute of Management’s Omkar Kokatay of final year BE Printing Engineering received a Gold medal, and Aditya Hugay of final year BE Printing Engineering won a Silver medal. All the candidates received their medals from Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik (Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of Maharashtra).

Next was IndiaSkills Regional West. At the regional competition, participants were given tasks such as printing a front back brochure, printing booklet, mixing and matching 50 grams of ink and fault finding, etc. The IndiaSkills Regionals took place from October 29 to November 1, 2021 where Omkar Kokatay and Aditya Hugay bagged Gold and Silver medals.

The Regionals included four zones – North, South, East and West. From each of the zones the top candidates got a chance to advance to the national level.

At the National level, six candidates took part in the competition – two from the South zone, two from the West zone, one from the North zone and one from the East zone.

IndiaSkills National Competition took place in Delhi at Pragati Maidan. It included more than 56+ skills and some demo skills like garment making, shoe making, etc.

At this level, there were more difficult modules and tasks like Sinapse (Simulation Model), mixing matching and making 30 grams of ink in just 45 minutes while getting minimum Delta E value, digital printing and pre-flighting PDF files. The competition took place over a span of three days. On January 11, 2022 the results of the same were declared where Omkar Kokatay won a Gold Medal and Aditya Hugay won a Silver Medal.
