Students Induction Program 2020 at Inst. of Engg. & Technology, Calicut University

02 December 2020: On November 30, 2020, Calicut University Institute of Printing Technology (CUIET) began a 6-day Induction Program for the first year B.Tech students. The induction program was inaugurated by Dr M. K. Jayaraj, Vice-Chancellor University of Calicut.

CUIET is the only one engineering College offering Printing Technology B.Tech in the state of Kerala. With this induction programme, CUIET virtually launched its 18th batch (2020-2024). The event was also graced by O. Venugopalan, Founder Director, Anaswara Offset Pvt. Ltd. Ernakulam. Mohamed Shafeeq K, Asst. Professor, PT Dept, IET, welcomed the students, faculties and others present in the virtual event. Deepu Punnasseri, HOD, Printing Dept, CUIET, presided over the event.

In his address, Deepu Punnasseri explained about the achievements of the College and students in the last 17 years. He also thanked for the constant support of the AIFMP, Kerala Master Printers Association and Screen Print India magazine.

In his keynote address, Venugopal touched upon the topic “Print-Today and Tomorrow.” He spoke about the current scenario in the printing industry. “Who will win the race in the 21st century will be the person who will accept new technologies,” he said. Venugopalan also added that there is no death for the printing industry, but it will be changed day by day. So the industry should be followed by the day by day changes in the Printing Industry.

Department of Printing Technology was established in CUIET in 2001, to develop the skilled professionals in the field. The students have opportunities for interacting with members of the local printing industry through their training programmes, industrial visits and project works etc. In addition to printing subjects, the syllabus of printing technology is well designed in a way that the students can familiarise with the subjects of related engineering fields as well as management. Periodic updating of the syllabus enables our students to get excellent knowledge with the modern trends and scopes of the printing field.

The printing department is well equipped with laboratories such as Printing Machine Lab, Surface Preparation, Lab Tone & colour analysis Lab, Packaging Technology Lab, Screen Printing & Flexographic Lab, Quality Control Lab, DTP Lab, Print Finishing Lab, etc. The students get almost maximum job placement in leading printing companies including some jobs in the Gulf.
