Sustainability is the New Buzzword- Shashank Nadkarni, a Printing Industry Veteran, Highlights Eco-Friendly Initiative in Goa
26 June 2025: As a printing industry veteran, I have been regularly making efforts to convey the importance of sustainability as a concept with emphasis on innovative solutions and sustainable practices and to reduce the environmental impact of printing while enhancing print quality and efficiency in retail and outdoor spaces.
My key contributions include:
– Advocating eco-friendly inks and materials: Promoting the use of biodegradable, recyclable and sustainable materials in printing.
– Implementing sustainable print practices: Reducing waste, conserving energy, and optimizing print processes.
– Educating industry professionals: Sharing knowledge and best practices to drive industry-wide adoption of eco-friendly printing.
With Kromodyne Digital Solutions, I have been promoting eco-friendly printing solutions and thereby, setting a new standard for the industry. In this context I would like to highlight a new initiative by mahalasa who have installed the kaleido series of UV hybrid printer which provides eco friendly printing solutions in the retail front. As well they are now the initiators of starting the eco friendly solution for outdoor billboard and signage’s with Kromodyne brand of polyethelyne substrates.
The unit’s inauguration was done by Digamber Kamath, the former Chief Minister of Goa (2007-2012). Well-wishers and industry colleagues attended the function in large numbers.
Santosh Nair, Director, Kromodyne Digital Solutions (P) Ltd., formally shared a request to consider polyethylene media as a sustainable alternative to PVC Flex for signage and outdoor printing with Dept. of Enviornment & Climate Change, Goa.
New Digital Printer installed at Mahalasa IT Solutions and Printing LLP is a 3.2 mtr solvent printer used specifically to print billboards and sign boards for PE material. Printing around 2,000 sq ft per hour it prints at very high speed with mild solvent inks so making the billboard and other promotional board eco-friendly.
The benefits of using polyethylene media are numerous:
– Reduced Plastic Waste: Polyethylene media can help reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by PVC flex.
– Promoting Sustainability: By adopting polyethylene media, Goa can promote sustainable practices and reduce its carbon footprint.
– Eco-Friendly: Polyethylene media is recyclable and non-toxic, macking it an eco-friendly alternative to PVC flex.
