Tamilnadu Secures Major Textile Park, Promising Jobs and Investment Surge

03 July 2025: Union government has approved a substantial development plan worth Rs.1,894 crore for Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Virudhunagar District, Tamilnadu. This initiative is expected to significantly advance the state’s efforts to reinforce its status as a leader in India’s textile industry.

Spanning 1,052 acres, the new park will be designed as a modern textile manufacturing hub, with an emphasis on technical textiles and integrated processing facilities. It is part of a group of seven PM MITRA parks being established across the country, each intended to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, policy support, and incentives to attract investment in the textile sector.

The project’s approval follows extended discussions between the Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, and Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. State Industries Minister T. R. B. Rajaa described the announcement as a major step forward for the local textile sector, highlighting the persistent efforts and cooperation that led to this milestone.

Construction is scheduled for completion by September 2026. The state administration anticipates that the park will attract investments totalling Rs.10,000 crore and generate employment for approximately 100,000 people. According to Minister Rajaa, Tamilnadu is already recognised as India’s top textile exporter, and this new development is set to further elevate its ambitions.

Key features planned for the park include a 15-million-litre-per-day common effluent treatment plant with zero liquid discharge, a 5-million-litre-per-day sewage treatment facility, accommodation for 10,000 workers, and 1.3 million square feet of ready-to-use and customizable factory space.

Tamilnadu’s PM MITRA Park joins similar projects in Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, all selected to host these flagship textile parks under the central government’s scheme.
