U. K. Mishra congratulates Dr.Harsh Vardhan, the next Chairman of WHO
23 May 2020: Uttam Kumar Mishra, proprietor of Mishra Textiles, Faridabad, recently met and congratulated Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who will be the next Executive Chairman of World Health Organisation (WHO).
“I know Dr. Harsh Vardhan since 1993. He is a dynamic personality. He was the Health Minister in Delhi Government. And now as Health Minister of Government of India, having played a pivotal role in the containment of COVID-19 in India, I think he deserves the Chairmanship at WHO,” said U.K. Mishra.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan is expected to take over as the next Chairman of the Executive Board of the WHO on 22 May according to media reports although official announcement yet to come both from WHO and Health Ministery. The WHO Board consists of 34 members and Dr. Harsh Vardhan will succeed Japan’s Dr. Hiroki Nakatani.
Reportedly, the proposal to appoint a nominee from India as the new Chairman of the WHO Executive Board was signed by the World Health Assembly consisting of 194 nations on 19 May 2020. Dr Harsh Vardhan’s election is just a formality and the WHO’s South-East Asia Group had decided the same in 2019.
