Why Are Young Professionals Missing in the Screen Printing Industry ?

25 December 2025: Nilesh Joshi, Founder & CEO, Leading Rangvishwa Enterprises & Empowering OEMs with Advanced user Interface & Printed Electronics Solutions, Analyses the Talent Gap.

I want to be a Printing Engineer. I want to build my career in the Printing Industry. I want to become a Screen Printer. In my long term experience in the Screen-Printing industry, I have rarely heard these words from anyone. Very few willingly choose Screen Printing as a planned career path. Most who join this industry come here by chance, not by choice – and this is a concern we can no longer ignore.

Why is Screen Printing Losing Young Talent ?

Despite being one of the most versatile and impactful printing technologies, Screen Printing still suffers from a lack of glamour and visibility. Unlike IT, Mechanical, Civil, or other engineering domains, Screen Printing is not perceived as a “modern” or “aspirational” profession.

Even though many colleges offer Printing Diploma and Degree programs, the curriculum barely touches the advanced world of Screen Printing. As a result, students pass out with limited exposure to the technology that powers segments like Textile printing / Ceramic / Glass decoration / Industrial Applications / Electronic PCB’s and Sensors and many more high-impact applications. Unfortunately, awareness about this potential is extremely low.

The Talent Gap: A Serious Challenge

Most industries today struggle with finding trained manpower – but in Screen Printing, the gap is massive. There is no structured course for Screen Printing Operators.

Students finishing their Printing degrees often refuse shop-floor roles, preferring office-based work in AC cabins or roles in sales/ marketing. Companies like ours must train fresh talent entirely in-house, which takes time, resources, and continuous effort. This leads to a crucial question: How can we attract skilled, enthusiastic young people to this industry ?

Time for Industry & Government to Collaborate

The Screen Printing fraternity must come together and request the government to introduce specialized courses in ITIs – just like CNC/VMC training programs.

Imagine a dedicated course: “Screen Printing Operator – Industrial Applications.” Such training would produce confident, skilled operators who understand mesh, inks, machines, registration, curing, quality control and basic printing fundamentals. This will transform our industry’s workforce and elevate production quality across India.

A Practical Initiative at Rangvishwa: A Success Story

At Rangvishwa Enterprises, we decided not to wait for change – we started creating it.
A few months ago, we offered a one-month On-Job Training (OJT) program to students from a Girls’ ITI where Screen Printing formed a

small part of their syllabus.
The results were remarkable ….
– The girls quickly adapted to Screen Printing concepts.
– They learned both manual and machine printing with confidence.
Within just one month, they demonstrated excellent skill development.

This positive experience motivated us to take the next step: We have now appointed four of these girls as trainee operators at Rangvishwa.

We are proud to provide them with a platform where they can build expertise, grow consistently, and build a bright career in a field that desperately needs young, energetic talent.

A Call to Action

The future of Screen Printing – and especially Printed Electronics – depends on how we develop the next generation of skilled operators, engineers and innovators.
