Cardbox Packaging Installs MK Duopress Power at Wolfsberg

17 August 2026: Cardbox Packaging has installed an MK Duopress Power at its Wolfsberg plant in Austria. The combined hot foil stamping and die-cutting system is intended to remove a finishing bottleneck while giving the folding-carton producer more capacity for premium packaging work.

What does the MK Duopress Power combine ?

The upgraded MK Duopress Power places two processing units in series. One unit can apply hot foil and the second can die-cut and separate individual blanks from the sheet. Cardbox can also configure both stations for foil stamping or both for die-cutting, depending on the job. This setup moves decoration and converting into one machine rather than treating them as separate production stages. That flexibility is aimed at folding cartons for cosmetics, food, confectionery and spirits, where precise foil effects and accurate cutting are often required in the same job. HEIDELBERG says an optimised gripper structure improves register accuracy and stability. The machine has a maximum rated output of 7,000 sheets per hour, depending on the substrate. That figure is a manufacturer specification rather than a reported average at Cardbox.

Why did Cardbox Packaging invest in the system?

Cardbox Packaging was a pilot user of the upgraded machine. According to HEIDELBERG’s official release, limited die-cutting capacity at Wolfsberg had created a production constraint. The company says the new installation removed that bottleneck and expanded its options for customers in the cosmetics, food and beverage sectors.

“The increase in our die-cutting capacities, combined with hot foil stamping, is therefore an ideal complement to our production from a technical standpoint as well,” said Chris Düringer, Director of Cardbox Packaging. The installation also extends a long-standing equipment relationship. HEIDELBERG reports that Cardbox relies almost entirely on HEIDELBERG and MK Masterwork technology for postpress work across five sites in Europe and the United States.

What equipment already operates at Cardbox ?

The Wolfsberg plant runs two Speedmaster XL 106 presses for folding-carton production. One is rated at 21,000 sheets per hour. The site also has three MK Mastermatrix 106 CSB die-cutters.

At Cardbox’s US facility, a Speedmaster XL 106 works with an MK Promatrix 106 CSB die-cutter and an MK Diany Easy folder-gluer. HEIDELBERG said a further MK Promatrix 106 CB is planned for installation; it should not yet be counted as operating equipment.

How will Prinect connect printing and finishing ?

HEIDELBERG is gradually adding MK Masterwork finishing systems, including the MK Duopress Power, to its Prinect workflow. The stated aim is to carry job data across printing and postpress, improving production visibility and reducing manual coordination between stages. Wider workflow benefits remain part of HEIDELBERG’s continuing integration programme.

FAQs ….

How fast is the MK Duopress Power ?
HEIDELBERG rates the upgraded machine at up to 7,000 sheets per hour, depending on the substrate. Actual production speed will vary by material, tooling and job requirements.

Where is Cardbox Packaging using the machine ?
The confirmed installation is at Cardbox Packaging’s folding-carton production facility in Wolfsberg, Austria.
