Colorjet Participate in Roundtable on ‘Sustainability & Circularity in Textiles’ in Delhi

06 December 2022: Sustainability and circularity is not new to the country. However, it was reported that about 50% of the fabric is wasted during the manufacturing process and the fast fashion trends leads to 81% of all manufactured garments getting dumped as landfills either due to short life cycle after consumer use or due to excess stock.

In view of this scenario, Invest India organised a roundtable on Sustainability and Circularity in Textiles, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Roundtable was chaired by Smt. Prajakta Verma IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of textiles. Participants included representatives from ColorJet Group, Reliance Group, Honeywell, Arvind Ltd, Welspun Group, InvestIndia, Pearl Global, AEPC, other participants from Textile Industry. This conference is setup in the context to devise a multistakeholder approach which is a key to drive us to the future. Mainstreaming sustainability and circularity in Textile sector.

As the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Govt. of India, Invest India under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India has designed this unique forum to conduct detailed conversations between pioneering global leaders in the textile industry, key decision-makers and senior leadership from the Government of India to further work on interventions required by the Government, in particular in machinery segment to FastTrack textile export target of $100 billion over the next five years.

Ms. Prajakta Verma, Joint Secretary, MoT emphasized that it is the need of the hour to critically evaluate approaches in a world which is driven by the 2030 Sustainability and the Climate agenda.

In a thanks giving message Smarth Bansal, GM-Colorjet, said “We are glad to participate in the Roundtable discussion on ‘Sustainability and Circularity in Textiles and we are thankful to the organisers for inviting us for this industry event.” He said that the Roundtable provided a platform for industry and the stakeholders in Textile Value Chain to deliberate on the current status and way forward for mainstreaming sustainability circularity and traceability in the textile sector.

Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of India, set up as a non-profit venture under the aegis of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It facilitates and empowers all investors under the ‘Make in India’ initiative to establish, operate and expand their businesses in India.

Invest India is playing an active role as the sector is gearing up to implement EU 2030 sustainability guidelines, and Ministry of textiles is seeking inputs for possibly subsidising sustainability machinery.
