Shutterfly Orders Four Scodix Ultra 2500 SHD Presses

01 August 2026: Shutterfly has ordered four Scodix Ultra 2500 SHD presses as it expands its digital print embellishment capacity ahead of the 2026 peak production season.

Scodix said the presses would be installed over the coming months. The investment is also expected to include a five-year agreement covering Scodix consumables and service, although the announcement describes that agreement as anticipated rather than completed.

The purchase extends a relationship that Scodix says began in 2018, when Shutterfly first adopted its technology for adding premium digital effects to personalised products. The new equipment is intended to help Shutterfly produce these effects at the speed and volume required during periods of high demand.

Higher-detail digital embellishment

The Scodix Ultra 2500 SHD is a B2-format digital embellishment press. Its Smart High Definition technology is designed to handle fine lines, small text, detailed patterns and large-area foiling with greater precision.

The press also includes Scodix Multi-Layer Embellishment technology. According to Scodix, the system applies selective micro-priming only to areas marked for embellishment, allowing effects to be added directly to textured and uncoated paper.

This gives Shutterfly more options for enhancing personalised cards, stationery, photo products and other printed items without shifting those jobs to a separate conventional embellishment process.

Investment targets peak-season capacity

Shutterfly faces sharp production peaks around holidays and other gift-buying periods. Adding four presses should increase the amount of embellished work it can handle while keeping production within a digital workflow.

Dave Bull, Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at Shutterfly, said Scodix technology had helped the company develop its premium embellishment range while meeting customers’ expectations for speed and quality.

Scodix CEO and co-founder Eli Grinberg said Shutterfly’s repeat investment reflected the long-term role of digital embellishment in its personalised product strategy.
