Mitsubishi Electric to Invest $222-mn in New AC Manufacturing Plant in Tamilnadu
10 May 2023: As per news reports, in an announcement that has been welcomed by the label and industrial screen printing fraternity, Mitsubishi Electric India (P) Ltd. has shared its intention to invest US$222 million in a new manufacturing plant for air-conditioners and compressors at Origins by Mahindra, near Chennai. The reports state that this will be Mitsubishi Electric’s first AC and compressor manufacturing facility in India and it is expected to start production by October 2025.
Once fully operational, it will enable Mitsubishi Electric to achieve an annual production capability of 3,00,000 units of room ACs and 6,50,000 units of compressors. The fact that leading white good manufacturers are not only establishing their presence in India but also expanding it is good news for the printing fraternity as it is expected to translate into better business going forward.
The announcement was made by Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Ltd., a joint venture between Mahindra World City Developers Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation of Japan. Mitsubishi Electric plant will be spread across 52 acres.
News reports quoted Rajaram Pai, Chief Business Officer, Industrial, Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd., saying that they were happy to welcome the electric and electronic equipment manufacturer to set up the AC-cum-compressor unit. The first phase of Origins, an industrial cluster being built by Mahindra, is spread over 307 acres at Ponneri, near Chennai.
New manufacturing facility is expected to strongly support stable product supply as Indian market continues to grow due to its increasing population and expanding economy, according to a statement by Kazuhiko Tamura, MD, Mitsubishi Electric India, as mentioned in news reports.
