PM Vishwakarma Reaches Three Years with 30 Lakh Registrations
19 September 2026: PM Vishwakarma reaches its third anniversary on 17 September 2026, having met its target of registering 30 lakh beneficiaries across India. A government update reports progress in training, toolkit distribution and credit, giving traditional artisans access to support for their work and small businesses.
PM Vishwakarma registration target reached
Launched on 17 September 2023, the scheme covers 18 traditional trades. The Press Information Bureau’s anniversary backgrounder confirms that registrations have reached 30 lakh. Its support package includes certificates and identity cards, skills training, toolkits, credit, digital-payment incentives and marketing assistance.
Registration follows verification at the gram panchayat or urban local body, scrutiny by the district implementation committee and approval by a screening committee. Reaching the registration target does not mean every beneficiary has received every benefit.
PM Vishwakarma sits alongside other approaches to supporting craft livelihoods. Screen Print India’s earlier coverage of artisan cluster development explains support under the separate Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana.
Training, toolkits and credit: what the figures show
PIB’s backgrounder reports that more than 24.37 lakh artisans had received basic skills training and more than 18.16 lakh beneficiaries had received toolkits as of 15 September 2026. It also reports over 6.19 lakh sanctioned loans worth approximately INR 5,316 crore.
Basic training lasts five to seven days, while advanced training runs for at least 15 days. Trainees receive a daily stipend of INR 500, and eligible beneficiaries can receive toolkit support worth up to INR 15,000.
How much can an artisan borrow?
The scheme offers collateral-free enterprise development loans of up to INR 3 lakh in two tranches: up to INR 1 lakh initially and up to INR 2 lakh subsequently. The concessional borrower interest rate is 5%.
Basic training is required for the first tranche. Access to the second depends on repayment of the first loan and meeting the scheme’s digital-transaction or advanced-training conditions. The initial INR 1 lakh tranche is therefore not the scheme’s total borrowing limit.
Eligible applicants must be at least 18 and work with their hands and tools in a covered trade as self-employed, unorganised-sector artisans. Applications go through Common Service Centres, with benefits limited to one family member.
Connecting craftspeople with buyers
Marketing support covers trade fairs, exhibitions, branding and access to e-commerce platforms. PIB says more than 30,000 beneficiaries have connected with platforms including GeM, ONDC, Meesho and Amazon.
