Screen Solutions Signs MOU with PVG’s COET (Dept. of Printing Technology): Joining Hands by Industry-Academia

17 March 2022: Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s College of Engineering & Technology – Department of Printing Technology and G. K. Pate (Wani) Institute of Management organised the technical sessions on screen printing technology by COPE in association with Screen Solutions.

They say if you focus on Saraswati (knowledge), then Lakshmi (wealth) automatically follows. Keeping this rationale in mind, Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s College of Engineering & Technology – Department of Printing Technology and G. K. Pate (Wani) Institute of Management organised ‘Screenovations’ a week of technical sessions on screen printing technology by COPE in association with Screen Solutions from March 14-17, 2022.

March 14th, 2022 was the first day of the college opening for offline lectures or ‘in-person’ interaction after the COVID-19 lockdown. The concept of a week-long technical seminar was hailed as an excellent way to set the atmosphere for learning and attended by over 250 students of printing faculty. The expert lecture series on Printing Technology was held for all 4 days and the focus was on ‘Screen Printing’.

The event commenced on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 12 noon. The Screenovations program got off to an auspicious start with the Deep Prajwalan and Ganesh Pooja. It was followed by the introduction of dignitaries present at the occasion and the concept of Screenovations 2022 by Prof. P. A. Joshi. The welcome address was given by Dr. M. R. Tarambale, Principal I/C, PVG’s COET and GKPWIM.

Prof. Madhura P. Mahajan, HOD of Printing Engineering gave the introduction of the department. This was followed by the address by Prof. R. G. Kaduskar, Director, PVG’s COET and GKPWIM, Pune.

After presenting his views, S. P Redekar, Hon. Chairman, Pune Vidyarthi Griha, conducted the felicitation of the Chief Guest Shashank Nadkarni, Director, Screen Solutions, Mumbai. The Felicitation of Sanjay Mehta, Director, Protolab Electrotechnologies (P) Ltd., Navi Mumbai was done by Prof. R. G. Kaduskar, Director, PVG’s COET and GKPWIM, Pune.

Sandeep Jain of Aadish International, Mumbai was felicitated by Dr. M. R. Tarambale, Principal I/C, PVG’s COET and GKPWIM. Ravi Joshi, President, Pune Press Owners Association, Past-President, All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP); Dilip Bhise of Beauty Graphics, Mumbai; Mustafa Kapadia, Director, Colors, Navi Mumbai and other dignitaries were also felicitated on the occasion.

Chief Guest Shashank Nadkarni, Director, Screen Solutions, Mumbai addressed the gathering followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by PVG’s COET & GKPWIM and Screen Solutions, Mumbai.

The objective behind the MoU is to help the students with the facilitation of more industrial visits in a better manner, thereby ensuring greater co-ordination between the industry and the institute. The focus is always on creating better knowledge about screen printing by helping in organising technical seminars as well as industrial or plant visits.

Another benefit of this interface and the joining hands by industry-academia is that it helps the final year students in getting placements/ jobs in the printing industry. It also supports the screen printing industry to enable or create better awareness about the Printing Department of PVG College of Engineering.

While sharing his views and providing a glimpse of what lies ahead for students, Shashank Nadkarni, Director, Screen Solutions, said, “Throughout the year we are going to organise various types of programs / seminars / industrial visits for students of the Printing Department of PVG College. We want to make them aware about the vast opportunities that screen printing can provide to them and we want to be an essential bridge between the institute and the industry by helping the final year students in getting the placement in our industry.”

An expert talk on ‘Rotary & Pad Printing’ by Sandeep Jain, Founder, Aadish International, Mumbai was followed by one on ‘Printed Graphics, Printed Electronics & Smart Cards’ by Sanjay Mehta, Protolab, Navi Mumbai.

On day two, Tuesday, March 15th, 2022, Vishwas Phadke of Screen O Make, Pune spoke on ‘Garment/Textile Printing’. After that, Sharad Gokhale of Kusuma Arts, Pune spoke on ‘Scope in Commercial Screen Printing’. They also shared the scope for giving intern jobs to the printing department students. Vishwas Phadke also offered his printing shop floor for training the students on Garment Printing. Over 300 students attended their presentations.

Day 3, March 16th, 2022, witnessed an online presentation on the Latest Development in Textile / Garment Printing done virtually by Dr. Ajay Ranka of Zydex Industries, Baroda. Following that, Deepa Shaha, Head-Operations R&D, Keetronics India (P) Ltd., Pune provided an ‘Overview of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) industry. Over 250 students attended their presentations.

The final day, March 17th, 2022 – Jeetendra J, of Chennai based Efex Colour Screens enlightened the PVG students on ‘Specialty Screen Printing’. He is personally specialised in advanced screen printing with special focus on value added, premium wedding cards, luxury packaging. He is also specialised in art reproduction with artists’ permission. He explained various promising areas of screen printing such as BRAILLE, Touch and Feel HIGH DENSITY PRINTS, print in FASHION, INDUSTRIAL, PACKAGING, Signage, CONSUMER PRODUCTS, etc. After his brief presentation, Jeetendra also performed live demonstration of the entire screen printing process, right from pre press to final printing.
The final day, March 17th, 2022 witnessed Dr. Bapan Adak from Kusumgar Corporates (P) Ltd. speaking on ‘Technical Textiles’.
