Epson’s Bekasi Printer Factory Earns RBA Platinum Recognition

29 July 2026: Seiko Epson’s PT. Indonesia Epson Industry (IEI) printer factory in Bekasi, Indonesia, has earned Platinum recognition under the Responsible Business Alliance Validated Assessment Program (VAP).

The Epson IEI RBA VAP Platinum recognition is a site-specific, audit-based result, not a group-wide compliance finding. An RBA recognition document posted by Epson records a July 1, 2026 audit, a July 21 issue date and an expiration date of January 29, 2028.

RBA says its VAP assessments are carried out by RBA-approved independent third-party firms. They examine a manufacturing site’s conformance with the RBA Code of Conduct, which covers labor, health and safety, environment, ethics and management systems.

Under the RBA’s published Recognition Program, Platinum is its highest VAP recognition level. To receive it, a manufacturing facility must have a full VAP assessment, submit a complete corrective action plan, undergo a VAP closure audit and achieve a full score of 200 after all original Priority, Major and Minor findings are closed. The RBA also makes clear that recognition is not a certification or a guarantee that a site will remain free of issues; it applies to a particular audit and has an expiration date.

According to the RBA recognition document, IEI closed all three categories of findings and scored 200.0. Epson’s July 27 announcement says IEI was established in July 1994, employs 10,814 people as of March 31, 2026 and manufactures printers. Epson’s current site listing gives a broader product range: inkjet, large-format, small and impact dot-matrix printers.

Epson joined the RBA in April 2019, according to its external-initiatives page. It says sites in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China and the Philippines have earned Platinum recognition at some point. That is a company statement covering historical results, not a blanket current status for all Epson factories in those countries. Its current public table lists four Platinum site records: IEI, PT. Epson Batam, Epson Precision (Thailand) and Epson Precision Suzhou. Epson Engineering (Shenzhen) is listed as Silver.

Akifumi Takei, Epson’s Executive Officer and General Administrative Manager of the Production Management Division, linked the work to ENGINEERED FUTURE 2035. Epson describes it as a long-term corporate vision for building environmental and social value alongside corporate value through 2035.
