Hyundai India Investment: Group Plans USD 15.5 Billion by 2032

22 October 2026: Hyundai Motor Group announced a USD 15.5 billion investment programme for India on 13 October 2026 in New Delhi, covering 2026-2032. The plan supports manufacturing expansion, research and development, and local suppliers, with the group aiming to strengthen India’s role in its global production and export network.

The Hyundai India investment announcement followed discussions between Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office. It sets out a seven-year commitment, rather than expenditure already completed.

Hyundai India investment spans Hyundai and Kia

The manufacturing programme covers both Hyundai Motor India Limited and Kia India. Hyundai says it will expand production capacity to serve domestic demand and exports while increasing component localisation and developing relationships with Indian suppliers.

The Hyundai Pune plant expansion forms part of this wider manufacturing strategy. Hyundai formally inaugurated the Talegaon facility in Maharashtra on 14 October 2026, one day after the group announced its investment commitment.

According to Hyundai’s Pune inauguration announcement, the plant starts with annual installed capacity of 170,000 vehicles, with a phased increase to 320,000 planned by 2030. These figures measure production capability, not vehicles actually manufactured. Across Chennai, Pune and Kia’s Anantapur plant, the group reports combined annual capacity exceeding 1.4 million vehicles.

USD 700 million planned for R&D

Hyundai plans approximately USD 700 million for its Indian research and development centre, including a vehicle testing track. The R&D allocation sits within the broader USD 15.5 billion programme and aims to support technology development and local engineering talent.

A proposed dedicated investment entity in India will coordinate investments in R&D infrastructure and future technologies. Hyundai says the entity will also identify local partners and support cooperation with component suppliers.

The group’s existing component and service businesses include Hyundai Mobis. Screen Print India’s coverage of the separate Hyundai Mobis display partnership provides context on specialist component development.

Charging and recycling remain areas to explore

The group will explore opportunities in EV charging infrastructure, specialised automotive financing and end-of-life vehicle recycling. Its strategy also includes support for promising startups and new mobility services connected to its vehicle business.

What does the plan mean for print suppliers?

The investment is expected to generate employment opportunities across manufacturing, engineering, research, component production and allied industries. It could also create opportunities for automotive printing, decorative components, industrial coatings, functional films and other value-added manufacturing applications.

With this ambitious investment programme, Hyundai Motor Group aims to strengthen India’s role in its international manufacturing network while contributing to the country’s automotive technology capabilities, industrial development and export competitiveness.
