Hyundai Pune Plant Plans INR 4,000 Crore Expansion by 2030

17 October 2026: Hyundai Motor India announced plans for an additional INR 4,000 crore investment in Maharashtra on 14 October 2026, alongside the formal inauguration of its Talegaon facility near Pune. The Hyundai Pune plant expansion aims to raise annual capacity to 320,000 vehicles by 2030, supporting localisation and exports.

How much will Hyundai Pune plant capacity increase?

According to Hyundai’s inauguration announcement, the facility starts with installed capacity of 170,000 vehicles annually and will expand in phases to 320,000. That represents an increase of approximately 88%, rather than a full doubling. Installed capacity measures production capability, not actual vehicle output.

Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg told reporters that the company had already invested INR 7,000 crore in Maharashtra. The additional INR 4,000 crore forms part of the company’s phased INR 11,000 crore commitment to the facility, not a separate amount on top of that total.

Hyundai lists Chennai’s existing annual capacity at 824,000 vehicles. Adding Pune’s planned 320,000 would give Hyundai Motor India capacity of 1,144,000 vehicles annually, assuming Chennai remains unchanged. This calculation excludes Kia India and does not represent current output.

Local sourcing and supplier employment

Garg said Hyundai aims to increase localisation from 83% to 92%. The company’s official release also states that 55 supplier partners have invested nearly INR 4,600 crore in Maharashtra. Hyundai attributes more than 18,000 employment opportunities to these suppliers together with tier-II vendors.

Those figures describe the existing supplier network. Hyundai has not specified how many additional jobs the proposed INR 4,000 crore expansion alone would create.

Separate domestic component developments include SJS’s automotive display agreement, covering optical bonding and assembly in India. That agreement is not an announced supply contract for Hyundai’s Pune plant.

AI inspection is already part of the facility

Hyundai says the plant incorporates AI-based quality inspection and defect detection, predictive maintenance and its E-FOREST digital manufacturing platform. These are features of the inaugurated facility, rather than technologies that the company merely intends to introduce later.

The production lines can accommodate multiple models, with support for internal-combustion and hybrid vehicles in the future. The company also identifies the all-new Hyundai VENUE as the plant’s export product, with overseas shipments planned to reach more than 35 markets.

For print-industry suppliers, automotive printed electronics applications include touch sensors, lighting and vehicle interiors. Hyundai’s announcement does not identify printed-electronics procurement for Talegaon.

How the expansion fits the wider India investment

On 13 October 2026, Hyundai Motor Group announced a USD 15.5 billion India investment commitment for 2026–2032. It covers manufacturing expansion, research and development infrastructure, local supplier development and future mobility technologies, including opportunities in EV charging.

The programme spans Hyundai Motor India and Kia India, rather than Pune alone. The group also plans a dedicated Indian investment entity to coordinate technology investment and partnerships.

Its component operations include Hyundai Mobis, whose separate holographic windshield display partnership brings together tesa, ZEISS and Saint-Gobain Sekurit. That initiative concerns automotive display development; Hyundai has not linked it to the Pune expansion.
