Apple Unveils iPhone Duo, Sets India Launch for 23 October

16 September 2026: Apple introduced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, in Cupertino, California, on 9 September 2026. The device combines a pocketable outer screen with a larger folding display for viewing content and using apps side by side. India sales begin on 23 October, with prices starting at INR 2,99,900.

According to Apple’s India launch announcement, pre-orders open on 16 October 2026. The phone comes in Star White and Night Sky, with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. These are announced availability dates, not an indication that sales have already begun.

iPhone Duo pairs two displays with a folding design

The 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display opens into a larger workspace. Apple describes its screen area as 50% larger than that of iPhone 18 Pro Max. When closed, the 5.4-inch outer display provides 90% of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro.

Both displays support ProMotion, Always-On functionality and 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. They share the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally between them. Apple says a nano-texture finish on the inner display reduces glare and reflections while making the fold crease less visible.

The enclosure uses grade 5 titanium and includes a 3D-printed hinge cover. That manufacturing detail adds another angle to Screen Print India’s earlier coverage of Apple’s India production expansion, although the Duo announcement does not establish that this model will be manufactured in India.

Split View and cameras use the extra screen space

Apple pairs the A20 Pro chip with a custom vapour chamber and dual-battery architecture. The device will ship with iOS 27.1, with an interface adapted to its folding screens and different orientations.

Split View allows two apps to run side by side. Users can also open two windows of the same app, such as Safari, and save app pairs for later. The folding design supports hands-free video viewing and FaceTime calls when the phone rests partly open on a surface.

The rear camera system combines 48MP Fusion Main and Ultra Wide cameras. Duo Preview displays a live camera view on the outer screen so subjects can check their framing. Smart Take uses on-device AI to capture photographs automatically when people are posing.

Protection and India availability

Ceramic Shield protects the back, while Ceramic Shield 2 covers the outer display. The inner screen uses a scratch-resistant coating and nano-textured polymer cover layer.

Apple lists an IP68 rating under controlled laboratory conditions, covering a maximum depth of six metres for up to 30 minutes. Water and dust resistance can decline with normal wear, and Apple excludes liquid damage from its warranty.

The India launch follows earlier milestones in Apple’s local retail presence, including the Apple BKC store opening.
