ORAFOL Solar Protection Films Expand With Full Group M.A.M. Takeover

01 October 2026: ORAFOL announced full ownership of Belgian solar protection film manufacturer Group Michiels Advanced Materials, known as Group M.A.M., effective 28 September 2026. Announced in Oranienburg, Germany, the acquisition brings forward a takeover originally planned for 2029 and adds the Belgian company’s technology to ORAFOL’s Functional Films business unit.

According to ORAFOL’s acquisition announcement, the companies had agreed on full integration as a shared goal when their investment partnership began.

What changes for ORAFOL solar protection films?

The acquisition supports expansion of ORAFOL’s portfolio of spectrally selective and reflective solar protection films. ORAFOL identifies Functional Films as a strategic growth business within its Roadmap 2030 programme, linking the takeover to its wider manufacturing and international expansion plans.

Screen Print India’s earlier coverage of ORAFOL’s Roadmap 2030 plans provides background on that investment strategy, including expansion at Group M.A.M. in Belgium. ORAFOL also reports that it brought a solar and heat protection portfolio to market within 12 months.

The partnership began in 2024

The initial transaction predates the October 2024 announcement. ORAFOL’s original investment release, dated 17 October 2024, states that the stake acquisition took effect on 10 September 2024. It already described the intention to acquire 100% of Group M.A.M. in the following years. That release identified metal sputtering as Group M.A.M.’s technology focus. ORAFOL explained that the process gives films spectrally selective properties for glazing applications designed to reduce heat entering buildings, vehicles and greenhouses.

Our report on ORAFOL’s initial M.A.M. investment records the earlier plans for processing these films at its Oranienburg headquarters.

Why did ORAFOL accelerate the takeover?

Dr. Holger Loclair, Chairman and CEO of ORAFOL, said cooperation with Group M.A.M. had progressed sufficiently to justify taking the next step earlier. He said the technology had met the company’s expectations and, according to independent research institutes, exceeded them in effectiveness.

Luc Michiels, CEO of Group M.A.M said “The collaboration with ORAFOL elevates our technology to the next industrial scale-up level. With this step, we are addressing a strongly growing global market with technologically leading products and personal service worldwide. From the beginning, we shared the ambition to make our technology available to a much broader international market. Becoming part of ORAFOL gives us the industrial strength, global reach and long-term vision to accelerate that ambition while continuing to innovate for our customers.“
