UPM Gujarat Factory Planned for Early 2028 Opening

05 November 2026: UPM Adhesive Materials announced on 28 October 2026 that it plans to open a self-adhesive label material factory in Gujarat in early 2028. The acrylic-based coating line would add local production to its Indian distribution network, supporting faster customer service, a priority also reflected in its Loupe India 2026 announcement for Greater Noida.

UPM Gujarat factory: local coating plans

UPM describes the planned facility as its first factory in India. The company says access to local raw materials and a skilled workforce supports its regional growth plans, while local coating should help it respond faster to customer requirements.

“A local coating line allows us to respond faster to our customers’ needs, while giving us access to India’s strong raw material base and talent pool,” said Harri Janhunen, Vice President, Strategy and India & Middle East, UPM Adhesive Materials.

How the factory fits the Indian network

The factory plan follows UPM’s 30 March 2026 terminal announcement for a slitting and distribution site near New Delhi. UPM said that terminal would serve Northern and Eastern India and complement its Mumbai terminal, which opened in February 2024.

The October factory announcement places the coating line alongside terminals near Mumbai and New Delhi. UPM expects that combination to improve supply reliability and speed for customers across India.

Label solutions in the Loupe India programme

The organiser scheduled Loupe India 2026 for 29 October to 1 November 2026 at India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida, Delhi NCR.

UPM’s 29 October exhibition announcement outlined its plans under the theme “Your Bharosa, our commitment” at stand K25. The programme linked investment in India with label-material performance, product availability and local customer support.

The announced range included UPM Raflatac premium label and adhesive solutions, UPM Vetro for wine and spirits labelling, and UPM PharmaSure for pharmaceutical and healthcare labelling.

UPM Adhesive Materials provides innovative self-adhesive label materials, graphics solutions, specialty tapes and related services to customers worldwide. One of UPM’s fastest-growing global businesses, the division employs approximately 3,300 professionals and recorded sales of nearly €1.7 billion in 2025.

With its planned Gujarat investment, UPM aims to strengthen customer partnerships, improve supply reliability and support India’s growing demand for advanced and sustainable labelling solutions.
