X-Rite Spectura Launches for Lab and Production Colour Checks

07 October 2026: X-Rite Pantone announced the Spectura portable sphere spectrophotometer platform on 1 October 2026 in a release issued from Grand Rapids, Michigan. The range covers standalone colour comparison and connected quality control, aiming to help manufacturers share measurements between laboratories and production sites while maintaining existing colour standards.

The Spectura product information identifies plastics, paints and coatings, and textiles as target industries. For textile readers, the launch continues X-Rite’s work on digital textile colour workflows, where brands and suppliers exchange objective measurement data rather than relying only on physical samples.

How X-Rite Spectura connects colour data

According to X-Rite’s launch announcement, connectivity powered by Color iQC brings colour measurements and instrument-performance data into digital quality workflows. Quality managers can review production results across sites and suppliers without waiting for manual data transfers. The company presents this as a way to identify deviations earlier and reduce rework; the release does not quantify those benefits.

Ben Spiegel, X-Rite Pantone’s director of product management, said distributed manufacturing needs connected workflows that preserve colour-data integrity wherever teams make decisions.

Shared data also features in the separate Siegwerk cloud colour-matching platform, which uses X-Rite technology for ink formulation and quality control in label and packaging production.

What distinguishes the S60, S62 and S64?

The official model comparison makes an important distinction: the three instruments do not offer identical connectivity or measurement features.

Model Intended role Key distinction
Spectura S60 Standalone colour comparison and quality checks No Connected mode, sample-temperature measurement or NetProfiler support listed
Spectura S62 Everyday connected quality control Connected mode, non-contact sample-temperature measurement and embedded NetProfiler
Spectura S64 Tighter-tolerance quality control Connected functions, advanced UV capabilities and support for Ci7000-series workflows

X-Rite specifically positions the S64 for agreement with Ci7800 benchtop spectrophotometers. All three models include a sample-preview camera; the S64 also saves sample images on the device.

X-Rite lists sample-handling accessories for all three models, including a flat-surface shoe, benchtop stand, cup-and-cylinder stand and sample-presentation fixtures. These options sit alongside the instruments’ camera targeting and help operators position different sample shapes.

Instrument-performance checks form part of X-Rite’s wider approach to manufacturing colour control, alongside measurement and quality software.

FAKUMA demonstration and October launch event

The FAKUMA organiser confirms that the plastics-processing fair runs from 12 to 16 October 2026 at Messe Friedrichshafen in Germany.

X-Rite says it plans to present Spectura in Hall B1, Stand 1307, with a live demonstration on Tuesday, 13 October at 10:00. A separate global virtual launch event follows on 21 October 2026 at 10:00 AM ET. Registration is complimentary, according to X-Rite’s event page.

FAQs

Is Spectura already available?

X-Rite’s 1 October announcement says the Spectura series is available now. The 21 October virtual event is therefore separate from the initial product announcement, not the stated start of availability.

Can buyers add functions later?

X-Rite says software, apps and subscriptions can add capabilities without replacing the device. Buyers should confirm which options apply to their selected model and distinguish available functions from future additions.
