Global Magazine Publishing Market Seen at USD 101.75 Billion by 2031

22 August 2026: Research and Markets forecasts the global magazine publishing market to grow from USD 91.06 billion in 2026 to USD 101.75 billion by 2031. The worldwide outlook points to a modest 2.24% compound annual growth rate, with digital formats and subscriptions gaining ground while print still generates most revenue and faces circulation pressure.

Magazine publishing market forecast at a glance

The figures come from a paid Research and Markets report covering 2026 to 2031. They are forecasts from the report publisher, rather than audited industry results.

  • The market is estimated at USD 89.05 billion in 2025 and USD 91.06 billion in 2026.
  • Its 2031 forecast is USD 101.75 billion.
  • Print held 64.12% of revenue in 2025.
  • Subscriptions supplied 54.37% of market revenue in 2025.
  • Digital formats are forecast to grow at 6.21% a year through 2031.

Why digital growth does not mean print disappears

Print remains the largest format by revenue, even though its broad circulation model is under strain. The report points to falling circulation, weaker print advertising, higher production costs and retail distribution consolidation. Titles built around established subscribers, luxury positioning or limited editions may preserve more print value than publications dependent on newsstand volume.

Digital magazines, meanwhile, face lower distribution barriers and suit mobile reading and recurring payments. Their forecast growth rate of 6.21% exceeds the market’s 2.24% rate, but the report describes a more specialised mix of formats rather than the outright replacement of print.

Subscriptions take a larger role in publisher revenue

Subscriptions accounted for 54.37% of 2025 revenue, according to the report. Recurring payments give publishers identifiable reader relationships and first-party data, but cheap introductory offers can create trouble at renewal. Retention, pricing and product quality therefore matter more than raw subscriber acquisition.

Advertising is forecast to grow at 5.46% a year through 2031. Publishers still face a balancing act: tighter paywalls can support reader revenue but reduce the inventory available to advertisers.

Where is magazine publishing expected to grow fastest ?

North America held the largest regional share in 2025 at 36.10%. Asia-Pacific, rather than North America, is projected to grow fastest at 4.88% a year through 2031. The report links that expansion to smartphone-led reading and demand for paid, specialised content across markets including India, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

What role could AI play ?

The report treats AI-assisted editorial personalisation as a supporting tool, not an automatic source of growth. It expects the best commercial results among publishers that already have registered users, subscription relationships and useful first-party data. Those publishers can apply AI to recommendations, audience segments, product decisions and advertising without assuming that software alone will repair weak reader relationships.
