Sustainable Print Manifesto Launches Implementation Framework in Valencia

01 October 2026: The Sustainable Print Manifesto launched its Implementation Framework for More Sustainable Print on 29 September 2026 at the FuturePrint Packaging, Labels and DTS Summit in Valencia, Spain. The framework translates nine shared principles into practical actions and indicators, helping print businesses measure improvements and explain their sustainability performance to buyers.

According to FuturePrint’s launch announcement, the framework builds on the Manifesto introduced at the same summit in April 2025. It adds a maturity model so businesses can assess their starting point and identify their next steps.

How the Sustainable Print Manifesto Framework Works

The framework targets equipment manufacturers, technology providers, printers and print service providers. It does not prescribe particular technologies or materials; organisations can adapt its approach to their size, sector and current capabilities.

Businesses can begin by measuring performance, then manage improvements before progressing towards optimisation and data sharing across the value chain. The stated approach favours gradual, measurable progress rather than expecting every business to tackle every issue at once.

The Manifesto’s nine core principles cover purposeful design, better materials and inks, efficient production, responsible finishing, operational waste recycling, low-emission electricity, water use, lifecycle impacts and transparent data.

These priorities connect with practical factory decisions. Screen Print India’s earlier report on CDC Printers’ sustainability roadmap, for example, described planned measures involving paper sourcing, rainwater harvesting and solar power.

Evidence for Brands and Print Buyers

FuturePrint says the framework aims to give suppliers and customers a shared language for assessing sustainability performance. Elena Knight, Marketing & Content Director at FuturePrint, said demonstrating progress should help businesses become more attractive to the brands and buyers they want to serve.

That commercial benefit remains an ambition, not a reported result. The launch announcement does not quantify additional sales, cost savings or emissions reductions achieved through the framework.

Clear evidence also matters when assessing materials. Previous coverage of CHT ecoprint testing results illustrates why sustainability claims need specific test conditions and limits rather than broad environmental labels.

Industry Partners Behind the Initiative

The initiative’s Development Partners are Cimpress, HP, Gallus, Domino, Sun Chemical, Nazdar and Canon Group. FuturePrint serves as the Facilitating Partner. Screen Print India previously reported on Nazdar’s founding partner role.

Supporting Partners include Bespoke, BPIF, IPIA, Lightning Tree, PRINTING United Alliance, SteveLister.com, The Pack Scout and VIGC. Contributors to the framework include CarbonQuota, CPI, Esko, Flint Group Digital Xeikon, Kavalan, Koenig & Bauer, Ricoh and TradePrint.

The partners aim to make progress easier to assess across the print value chain and reduce fragmented approaches and greenwashing. Those are the initiative’s stated objectives; the launch does not establish that the industry has already achieved them.
