India Wins Six Silvers at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

14 October 2026: India won six silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 in Shanghai, China, held from 22 to 27 September 2026. The team finished 10th by total medal points, improving on its Lyon 2024 result and earning recognition across technical, creative and service occupations.

The 48th WorldSkills Competition took place at Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Center. India entered 63 skills with 70 competitors, its largest contingent to date, according to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s results announcement.

Competition ran from 23-26 September, followed by the closing ceremony on 27 September. WorldSkills’ post-event report describes 1,400 competitors from nearly 70 countries and regions competing across 64 skills.

India’s WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 ranking explained

The 10th-place finish refers specifically to total medal points. WorldSkills assigns four points to gold, three to silver, two to bronze and one to a Medal for Excellence. India’s six silvers and 20 excellence awards produced 38 points; the team won no gold or bronze medals.

That measure differs from the total point score comparison, which placed India third. It adds competition scores across skills rather than points attached to awards. The ministry reported an improvement from 13th place at Lyon 2024, where India won four bronze medals and 12 excellence awards. Screen Print India’s Lyon 2024 results coverage records that earlier performance.

Who won India’s six silver medals?

The official skill-by-skill results confirm the following silver medallists:

Competitor Skill
Smriti Nambiar Bakery
Mohammed Salam Dental Prosthetics
Kovid Ajay Gangrade Digital Interactive Media Design
Parth Vohra Industrial Design Technology
Mehrunissa Begum Logistics and Freight Forwarding
Saniya Joshi Retail Sales

Smriti Nambiar also received India’s Best of Nation recognition, the ministry confirmed. For print and design readers, the results include Rajeeb Lochan Chand’s Medal for Excellence in Graphic Design Technology, alongside Kovid Ajay Gangrade’s digital-media silver.

Eleven first-time Indian entries

India made its first appearance in 11 disciplines, following the pre-event skill expansion plans. These were Dental Prosthetics, Digital Interactive Media Design, Intelligent Security Technology, Landscape Gardening, Optoelectronic Technology and Retail Sales.

The remaining entries were Unmanned Aerial Systems, Industrial Mechanics, Software Testing, Heavy Vehicle Technology and Aircraft Maintenance. The ministry’s list describes first-time participation by India, not 11 disciplines making their global WorldSkills debut.

How did India prepare its competitors?

The National Skill Development Corporation coordinated India’s participation under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, with support from Sector Skill Councils, industry partners, training institutions and technical experts.

Congratulating the team, Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, credited competitors, trainers and industry partners. The ministry said preparation included specialised training, mentoring and comparison with international standards.

That training approach has featured in earlier entries: Screen Print India’s report on Likith YP’s prototype modelling bronze in 2022 described dedicated preparation with an industry expert. For Shanghai, the ministry identified a further task: apply lessons from the competition to training methods, assessment standards and industry engagement beyond the national team.
