Modi Opens INR 150 Crore Arvind Varanasi Plant
28 October 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Arvind Limited’s garment manufacturing facility in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on 25 October 2026. The INR 150 crore Arvind Varanasi plant will make essential knitwear, with the company projecting more than 1,000 jobs, predominantly for women, and revenue potential of INR 250 crore.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the inauguration. Arvind Chairman Sanjay Lalbhai and Vice Chairmen Punit Lalbhai and Kulin Lalbhai welcomed the Prime Minister and accompanied him during the factory tour, according to the company’s release.
What will the Arvind Varanasi plant produce?
Arvind describes the greenfield unit as its first manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh. It occupies 5.5 acres, with approximately 65,000 sq. ft. of built-up space, and will use automated sewing technologies to manufacture essential knitwear.
The company says its automated production systems aim to improve productivity and maintain consistent quality as output increases.
The plant will convert Arvind’s in-house knitted fabrics into finished garments. The company says this supports its vertical-integration strategy by adding garment-making capacity to its fabric business and expanding its offering to existing customers.
Arvind estimates revenue potential at INR 250 crore, but its release gives no period for that figure or date for reaching it.
Women’s recruitment and worker accommodation
Hindustan Times reported, citing a Uttar Pradesh government statement, that more than 300 women had already been recruited and were undergoing training. Modi asked women workers about their jobs and the challenges they faced, according to the report. He also viewed an exhibition of the company’s fabrics.
The recruitment drive puts textile workforce skilling at the centre of the factory’s early development. The company’s projection of more than 1,000 jobs remains employment potential, rather than a confirmed headcount at inauguration.
Arvind says it has established dedicated worker hostels and plans to expand residential accommodation as operations grow. An official account of the visit from the Prime Minister’s Office also drew attention to the facility’s expected contribution to women’s employment.
Export ambitions and local supply chains
Arvind identifies Europe and the United Kingdom as markets where the new factory could strengthen its product offering. These are commercial ambitions; the inauguration release does not disclose a plant-specific export order book or shipment target.
The focus on overseas customers connects the investment with India’s wider apparel export business, including established centres covered in Screen Print India’s report on Tiruppur’s apparel exports.
Arvind Limited’s wider operations span textiles and apparel, advanced materials, environmental solutions, telecom and omnichannel commerce. The Varanasi investment falls within its garmenting business, where the company wants to turn more of its fabric into finished products.
Punit Lalbhai said the project could support the local economy through employment and purchases of goods and services, while also encouraging workers to return to the region. Arvind expects further activity across logistics and local supply chains, but it has not quantified those indirect benefits in its release.
